Silver Eagles, Keen-agers, Mature Adventurers and other names are used to describe the over 55 group in many churches but we chose ‘More Than Conquerors’ as a statement of how we feel about the work of the Lord. Bro. Horace Tharp was the one to suggest the name, and it truly does describe his life, and also what we are striving to be. We are conquerors over the things the Devil has thrown at us through the years. Many of us have worn the whole armour of God for more than 50 years and it is not tarnished but shiny from the battles. Yes, we are ‘More Than Conquerors’.
We cannot ‘run the aisles’ and jump like the younger ones but we have in the past. If you could see inside, our desire would be to be in the midst of it even now. We pray and support those that can be at the forefront of the battle. As the Apostle Paul instructed in Titus,But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: That the aged men be ... sound in faith, in charity, in patience. The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh holiness ... teachers of good things.
It is very enjoyable for us to get together for our fellowship dinners and sing the old hymns of the church song book. And we usually sing all 4 verses and by heart! At our prayer meetings and Bible studies, we can truly feel the presences of the Holy Ghost. As some of our group have made that last move, we know that they are waiting for us to ‘run our race with patience for the prize set before us’. We can say,“Through many dangers, toils and snares, we have already come; Twas Grace that’s brought us safe thus far, and Grace will lead us on.” By His Grace we will go forward and be “MORE THAN CONQUERORS".
